Is the world ready for the first black Superman?

Deadline had already reported back in August that Warner Bros was looking at Jordan to step into the role.

Henry Cavill announced last week that he is taking the high-profile lead in a new Netflix show based on the cult Witcher books and computer games.

Earlier today The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that negotiations between Cavill and the studio had broken down. 

Cavill has been very vocal about his hopes to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond. His sudden commitment to a major new TV show that couls span many series also started warning bells ringing that his involvement with the WB DC Extended Universe was coming to an end.

Now UK bookies have already started taking bets on who will be the new Superman.

Deadline added: “The word has been out that Warner Bros has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time, even considering casting Michael B Jordan in the role down the road.”

Michael B Jordan is already joint favourite at 3/1 with Colin O’Donogue.

Michael B Jordan is now a major box office draw after stealing the show in Black Panther and headlining the Rocky movie rebot spin-off Creed.

O’Donoghue may not be as well known yet, but the handsome Irish star has already made a splash with TV audiences playing Captain Hook in Once Upon A Time.

William Hill then puts Sam Claflin in third place at 6/1.

Four actors shared odds at 10/1 – Armie Hamer, Channing Tatum, Cillian Murphy and Donald Glover.

The news comes amid mounting reports that Warner Bros is looking to build up their new characters like Wonder Woman and Aquaman. The Flash also has an upcoming solo outing.

Superman has been replaced as a priority by plans to reboot Supergirl on the big screen.

William Hill added: “Whether the Man of Steel gets melted down and rebooted or replaced in the current Universe, there are surely going to be some big names jostling for the role.”

With online and fan backlashes happening daily over every aspect of casting, choosing the next Superman will be a superheroic task and could leave WB looking like an even greater villain…
