James Bond 25 new director Cary Fukunaga: ‘I want to helm a 007 movie starring Idris Elba’
This morning the official James Bond social media accounts announced that Cary Fukunaga would replace Danny Boyle as director of Bond 25, Craig’ last film.
Cary has only directed four movies and one of them is Netflix Original Beasts Of No Nation, which starred Elba.
And back in 2015 when he was promoting the movie, he admitted he would like to direct a Bond film starring the actor.
Speaking with Metro, Cary said: “That would be pretty cool to have Idris and I do a Bond film together.”
He added: “I wouldn’t say no to that. Maybe find a role for Abraham [Attah] in there too.”
Elba is currently one of the favourites to replace Craig after Bond 25, with odds as short as 2-1.
Of course such information doesn’t confirm anything as Bond producers won’t be looking for the next 007 until at least 2021, since Bond 25 has now been delayed until February 2020.
However with Cary now on as director, there’s every chance he could helm Bond 26 starring a new actor. After all, Sam Mendes shot Spectre after Skyfall.
The official statement announcing Cary as director read: ““Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.
“‘We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure,’ said Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
Bond 25 is released in UK cinemas on February 14, 2020.
