James Bond director: Danny Boyle OUT – who will replace Boyle for Bond 25? Latest odds
Jams Bond is facing a whole new problem.
While everyone was a-twitter with rumours about Idris Elba possibly joining on as the next James Bond, a major issue was bubbling under the surface undiscovered.
Now, those rumours have been sidelined after the announcement of Bond 25 director Danny Boyle’s recent exit.
Boyle was only recently confirmed to be the director of the next Bond movie.
Bond 25 will be Daniel Craig’s last outing as 007 and now the feature has been thrown into chaos, without its director.
Who will replace Danny Boyle for Bond 25? Here are the latest odds.
Bet fair has revealed their latest odds on who could be hired to replace Boyle as the director of Bond 25.
Christopher Nolan 2/1
Yann Demange 5/1
Denis Villeneuve 8/1
Sam Mendes 8/1
Lynne Ramsay 12/1
Daniel Craig 33/1
While Ladbrokes have pushed the following as their favourites for the role:
Christopher Nolan – 3/1
David Mackenzie – 4/1
Yann Demange – 6/1
Denis Villeneuve – 6/1
Edgar Wright – 7/1
Sam Mendes – 8/1
The Coen Brothers – 8/1
Martin McDonagh – 10/1
Steve McQueen – 12/1
Guy Ritchie – 16/1
And the bookies reckon the massive change will affect Idris Elba’s chances of getting the role and have this morning pushed his odds back out to 6/5 from 10/11.
The most notable market mover over the last few days is Tom Hiddleston, who has seen his odds of playing 007 next slashed from 16/1 to 8/1.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Idris Elba’s chances of playing Bond look to have come and gone; he may still be favourite but he’s on the drift, and punters are now turning their attention to Tom Hiddleston.”
Nolan, the favourite, is a certified blockbuster maker with previous films including Dunkirk and Interstellar.
Yann Demange may not be as ubiquitous a name, but is a BAFTA nominee for his direction Top Boy on Channel 4.
Denis Villeneuve has directed some stellar hits like Arrival, the first Sicario movie, and more recently the Blade Runner sequel.
Sam Mendes is a James Bond veteran who directed both Skyfall and Spectre.
Given the lacklustre critical response to Spectre, it seems unlikely he will be given another go at the franchise.
The sole woman on the list, Lynne Ramsay has made some gutwrenching movies like We Need To Talk About Kevin and You Were Never Really Here.
Finally, with the worst odds, are the star himself, Daniel Craig.
A joint statement was released by the producers and Craig, notifying the world of Boyle’s exit.
The statement said: “Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25.”
Daniel Craig’s inclusion in the statement to the public hints towards Craig’s sway and input in Bond 25’s production beyond his role as 007.
Boyle had written a new script for Bond 25, leading some to think the entire movie may now change.
A previous script is also available, but casting calls for several villains may now all be in jeopardy.
Whoever is set to helm Bond 25, their work will now surely be under the microscope.
With a quick turnaround time, Bond 25 may see its release date pushed back to accommodate the change in director.
