James Bond ‘needs to SLOW DOWN and get enthusiastic consent’ says sexual health charity
The further back you go with James Bond movies, the more uncomfortable scenes can be when it comes to the spy’s sexual exploits.
Now the Family Planning Association is highlighting its “Consent: Yes, yes, yes!” campaign for Sexual Health Awareness week this September.
According to The Sun, the FPA have discovered a number of occasions when Bond sexually assaulted women in the films, without being brought to justice.
To encourage the depiction of consent before sexual activity on screen, the charity are publishing guidance for production companies.
A scene from Goldfinger where Connery’s Bond forces himself on Pussy Galore saw his incarnation dubbed as a “rapist”.
But it looks like the depiction of 007’s sex life is changing for the better, as Daniel Craig earlier this year said he wants Bond to move away from being a womaniser.
The 50-year-old spoke with PEOPLE at the Opportunity Network’s annual gala in New York City back in April.
Craig said: “I’ve been trying to do that gently for the past four movies and I’ll continue to do that.”
He added: “We’re right in the middle of doing it.”
And before exiting Bond 25 as director, Danny Boyle revealed he had been working on a more progressive handling of the Bond girls.
Speaking with Page Six in March, the Oscar winner said: “You write in real time.
“You acknowledge the legacy of the world [of Bond] and you write in the world — but you also write in the modern world as well.”
