James Bond release date: Will Daniel Craig shoot with Rian Johnson DELAY Bond 25?
Daniel Craig is at the heart of some rather intense James Bond controversy.
In the wake of Danny Boyle’s departure from Bond 25, the movie was thrown into chaos.
With no new director and rumours the movie could be delayed, fans are waiting for some official statement and clarification from MGM and Eon Productions.
Now, details of Daniel Craig’s newest project have given fans even more cause for concern about Bond 25’s eventual release date.
Will Daniel Craig shoot with Rian Johnson delay Bond 25 release?
Despite what the headlines have made you think, the answer is: not necessarily.
Deadline reported: “Boyle’s abrupt exit from Bond 25 gave Johnson and Bergman an opening to pursue Craig, if he was up for squeezing in a movie before returning to his 007 franchise.”
Shooting for the Rian Johnson movie is set to begin in November.
Bond 25 filming was scheduled to begin in December, so depending on how swiftly filming for Rian Johnson’s new movie goes, there may be only a minimal delay to Bond 25.
Rian Johnson’s new flick, Knives Out, is a contemporary murder mystery starring Daniel Craig as a detective assigned to solve the crime.
Knives Out will be the first film Johnson has directed since 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which grossed over $1.3 billion.
Rian Johnson told Deadline he has been an Agatha Christie nut since his teens.
For the past decade, Johnson has been planning how to make his own murder mystery.
Johnson and his producing partner Ram Bergman were happy to cast Craig, telling Deadline:
“I have been a huge fan and always wanted to work with him and as I worked on the script, trying to get it right, Ram and I were wringing our hands over who could be the detective.
“Then, serendipitously, we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out,” Johnson said.
“He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new Poirot.”
While many still assume Bond 25 will be delayed, the scheduling of Craig’s appearance in Knives Out does not confirm this.
Bond 25’s original release date of October 2019 is thought to be pushed back by MGM and Eon Productions.
Craig has previously appeared in other movies while playing Bond, including Steven Soderbergh’s crime caper Logan Lucky.
Signing up to Rian Johnson’s murder mystery doesn’t necessarily impact Craig’s ability to star in Bond 25.
The publicity surrounding the decision can only be good for Johnson, drumming up anticipation for his first independent film since Looper in 2012.
