Liverpool news: Two stars singled out for 'destroying' West Ham
Liverpool won 4-0 at Anfield thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane (2) and Daniel Sturridge.
Naby Keita made his competitive debut for the Reds having joined from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
And ESPN FC pundit and former Arsenal forward Paul Mariner was impressed with the Guinea international.
“It was a seamless entry, it really was. He was fantastic,” Mariner said.
“We’ve seen him play in the Bundesliga and everybody’s questioning ‘can he replicate that in the Premier League?’. Yes he can, absolutely.
“It’s a fantastic signing by (Jurgen) Klopp. The midfield ran like an absolute dream.”
Mariner was also full of praise for James Milner, who played in midfield alongside Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum.
“Milner for me, I don’t know how he does it, he’s a fantastic player,” he added.
“He’s the sort of glue for everything in the middle of the park, tremendous leader.
“They were just spectacular, all over the field they were spectacular.
“All over the field they destroyed West Ham today.”
Liverpool are second favourites to win the title this season behind last term’s champions Manchester City.
And Mariner says they will push Pep Guardiola’s side all the way if they carry on from where they left off on Sunday.
“We’ve got to credit Liverpool with the way that he played, they absolutely stifled West Ham United,” Mariner said.
“(Jack) Wilshere was anonymous in the first half of the game.
“If they continue to play in this manner, which we expect them to, it’s going to be a very interesting Premier League.”
