Meghan Markle: Duchess of Sussex reveals her one trick to staying happy
Meghan Markle seems to have adapted to life away from Hollywood and into the royal family with remarkable ease during her relationship with Prince Harry.
It transpires her method to staying stress-free and happy is something anyone can try.
Meghan revealed in a post on her now-defunct blog, The Tig how something she started doing made her “just happier.”
She explained she practised Vedic meditation thanks to a coach she’d met in Santa Monica, California.
In the 2015 post, the now-Duchess said the coach was called “Light.” She wrote in the piece: “Yes, his name is Light,” she’d written. “This is LA after all.”
Light – full name Light Watkins – was a Vedic mediation coach whom she met while having a diner with a friend – and the encounter led to Meghan trying daily meditation.
She explained on the Tig she used to question how helpful such meditation could be, but, after giving it a go, it became the “quietude that rocked my world.”
Meghan admitted at first she found mediation “daunting” at first, but after a year she appreciated the benefits.
“I am just happier,” she wrote. “And meditation has much to do with it.”
Light Watkins spoke this year of his sessions with Meghan. “I took her through it and she had wonderful experiences,” he said.
“It seems like she was in a relatively good space beforehand and in a better space afterward.
“She was wonderful to work with. She seemed very appreciative.”
Vedic mediation is a non-religious meditation and is centred around silent mantra.
According to the London Meditation Centre: “You learn a mantra—a simple meaningless sound—that you repeat silently. The mantra quiets the mind and takes you to a settled state.
“As your mind settles, your body begins to rest more deeply than sleep. You come out of meditation feeling clear, refreshed, and ready to engage.
“Vedic Meditation is effortless and natural. You simply sit in a chair with your eyes closed for about 20 minutes in the morning and again in the early evening.”
Meghan fans have recently begun speculating that the Duchess’s American accent is sounding more British.
Meghan might be changing her accent to better fit in to the royal family, and “belong to that group”, according to dialect coach Pamela Vanderway.
Vanderway told the Guardian: “It’s absolutely normal for a human being to take on the accent of the people around them when they want to belong to that group.
“Accents are one of the ways human beings identify as being part of a group.
“[In] Meghan’s situation, she is representing the royal family, so she’s part of England.
“So there’s a particular pull for her to take on that way of speaking [and] she may or may not be taking it on consciously.”
