Meghan Markle: How much have her outfits cost since she became a royal?
Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, celebrates her first birthday as a member of the royal family today.
But how much has her wardrobe cost since she became a wardrobe?
Meghan, an LA-born former actress, is well known for her stylish fashion choices.
Her wardrobe to date has cost more than $1 million (£769,000), according to experts.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the end of June, royal expert Katie Nicholl predicted Meghan’s outfits has cost at least this figure since her engagement to Prince Harry last November.
Katie explained Meghan’s wedding dress, which was by Givenchy, had cost over $440,000 (£338,000).
Moreover, her Stella McCartney wedding reception dress is worth more than $157,000 (£120,000).
The Claire Waight Keller of Givenchy dress Meghan wore on her solo outing with the Queen in Cheshire cost a further $18,000 (£13,800).
It is likely Meghan’s wardrobe cost has spiralled to well above this figure since Katie’s estimate in late June.
The denim outfit Meghan wore to watch Prince Harry play at the Sentebale Polo late last month cost more than £3,000.
What’s more, Meghan’s Ralph Lauren Wimbledon shirt, a blue and white striped style, cost £600.
So who is paying for Meghan’s clothes?”It does fall now, that she is married into the royal family, to the Prince of Wales…to cover the cost of her working royal wardrobe,” Katie explained to ET Online.
“It may be that Meghan contributed certainly some of the costs for either of those wedding dresses, or perhaps both of those wedding dresses, I believe was also picked up by the palace.”
However, Katie said she believes Meghan’s outfits are “worth every penny”.
“Meghan is now an ambassador for the royal family. Look at the publicity she has brought in run up to the wedding. I’d argue that’s worth every penny.”
Meghan Markle will celebrate her birthday today alongside husband Prince Harry.
The slender Duchess of Sussex has long kept up her healthy eating habits in order to stay slim.
Her love of green juice and salads has been documented on her now-deleted lifestyle website, The Tig.
However, Meghan, who is also a foodie, has her vices just like the rest of us – and will no doubt enjoy these on her birthday.
Her favourite foodie vice is French fries, or chips as they are more commonly known in the UK.
