Pacific Rim Uprising DVD release date: When is John Boyega’s latest movie out?
With Pacific Rim Uprising, John Boyega has gone from one major action franchise to another.
Breaking into galactic level fame as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega has proven himself to be a heartfelt and talented young actor.
And as Jake Pentecost in the Pacific Rim series sequel, Boyega takes fighting the baddies to another extreme.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is now available on digital release, and will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on July 30, 2018.
SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY: WHAT IS THE STAR WARS MOVIE TIMELINE?
And to mark the occasion, Express.co.uk brings you an exclusive interview with the burgeoning movie star John Boyega on his role as Jake in Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Despite the total deviation from reality, Boyega drew from his own life for his role.
“I related Jake to a young me, especially when I was in secondary school I had a bit of a mouth, much more of an attitude, speaking before you listen,” he said.
Jake is the son Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba in the first movie) and it was Elba’s performance which drew Boyega to the project.
SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY: WHAT DOES THE DARTH MAUL CAMEO MEAN FOR NEXT STAR WARS MOVIE?
A former officer in the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, Jake is conscripted back into the organization to avoid being sent to prison.
Guillermo del Toro, the auteur of the Pacific Rim world, director of the first movie, and producer of the second heaped glowing praise on Boyega joining the project.
“The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world.
“‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job,” del Toro added.
STAR WARS 9 SPOILERS: DOES THIS NEW THEORY PROVE REY IS A KENOBI?
This interview also features Boyega detailing his favourite monster movies, adding that “anything coming from the sea” is something he’s instantly a fan of.
Despite similar magnitudes of scale, Pacific Rim: Uprising was quite a different undertaking to Star Wars.
“The other stuff I’ve done has been much more hand to hand, with this there was a lot of jumping, running sliding – a lot of heigh going on.
“Jake is a dangerous guy, so I had to go there for him,” Boyega said.
Indeed, Pacific Rim Uprising is all about balancing danger and risk with the benefits of saving humanity, a theme which runs deep in most science fiction flicks.
Uprising was critically divisive, though Boyega was lauded across the board for his performance.
