Passion of the Christ 2: ‘Highly-charged, Mount Everest of movies’ teases screenwriter
It’s been 16 years since The Passion of the Christ hit cinema screens, following the final hours of Jesus’ life and crucifixion. Now the box office smash is getting a sequel following the resurrection in the days after the Christian Messiah’s death. The new film’s screenwriter Randall Wallace has given an exciting update on the biblical epic.
Best known for writing Braveheart, The Man in the Iron Mask and Pearl Harbour, Wallace will be working with Gibson once again on the film currently known as The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.
Speaking with Movie Web, Wallace teased: “It’s something we talk about a lot.
“My major in college was religion, and I did a year seminary afterward.
“My major focus of study was the resurrection.”

Jim Caviezel is returning as Jesus Christ for the resurrection sequel
The screenwriter added: “That is the Mount Everest of movies and we are in discussions about it a lot.
“It’s a highly-charged one, so we keep our cards close to our chest.”
Over Easter, returning Jesus star Jim Caviezel claimed the resurrection film will be a “masterpiece”.
The devout Christian actor told Fox News: “It’s gonna be the biggest film in world history. I believe it will be based on what I feel in my heart.”
The Passion of the Christ was released in 2004 and was a box office smash
The 51-year-old continued: “It’s so imperative in this time.
“These [biblical] films can’t be made now.
“The films they make are Marvel Comics movies. You’ll see Superman. You won’t see Jesus…
“I got to play the greatest superhero there ever was.”

The Passion of the Christ 2 has been in the works for a number of years now.
As far back as 2016, Gibson was sharing details of his plans.
Speaking with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, the actor-director was asked about depicting Hell in the three days in-between the crucifixion and resurrection.
He said: “I’m not sure. But it’s worth thinking about, isn’t it?”
Gibson added: “What happened in three days?…I’m not sure, but it’s worth thinking about. Get your imagination going.
“It’s more than a single event, it’s an amazing event. And to underpin that with the things around it is really the story, to enlighten what that means.
“It’s not just about the event; it’s not just some chronological telling of just that event.
“That could be boring, and you think, ‘Oh, we read that’… But what are the other things around it that happened?”
