Queen Letizia wears demure 50s style skirt as she attends event in Madrid

Queen Letizia of Spain, 45, stepped out in Madrid today, and the royal channelled the 1950s with her outfit.

Mum-of-two Letizia covered up in a pleated floral print skirt which skimmed her mid-calves.

She paired the skirt with a loose fitting white short-sleeved top.

A thick navy belt cinched her in at the waist, with the colour matching one of the colours in her skirt.

Tying the look together, Letizia wore a pair of grey leather stiletto court shoes.

She completed the outfit with a cream clutch bag and pearl drop earrings.

As the event was in the daytime, Letizia kept her hair and makeup low-key.

She wore her hair in a side-parting and straight down, and her makeup was simple, with a swipe of bronzer and brown-nude lipstick.

The outfit is more restrained than others Letizia has been seen in recently.

Last week, she looked sultry in a £495 red dress for a night out with her husband King Felipe.

Despite the wet weather, the mum-of-two wore a summery Carolina Herrera pleated crepe dress.

She teamed this with a skinny black belt to highlight her slim waist.

A pair of red open toe stiletto shoes and red clutch bag completed the colour co-ordinated outfit.

Switching up her look, Letizia wore her hair in a half-up, half-down style which was curled for added volume.

The unusual style is not one she chooses often, tending to opt for more classic looks for events.

Earlier in June, she visited President Trump and his wife Melania at The White House, paying tribute to the First Lady with her outfit.

She wore a £1,286 pink dress from US designer Michael Kors. The form fitting dress showed off the former newsreader’s stunning figure.

The deep shade of pink also served to highlight Letizia’s glowing tan.

While the choice of an American designer was appropriate for the occasion, it also had a second significance.

Melania wore Letizia’s exact dress in blue last year to welcome the Panamanian President, Juan Carlos Varela and his wife, Lorena Castillo Garcia de Varela.
