Queen Maxima in pictures: Stylish Queen stuns during opening of parliament
Stylish Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands marked Prinsjesdag yesterday.
In the Netherlands the third Tuesday of September is Prinsjesdag – the state opening of parliament.
On this day, also known as Prince’s day, the head of state officially opens the new parliamentary year at the Ridderzall.
The Dutch King and Queen were a vision of opulent ceremony at the traditional event dating back to 1848.
The royals made the journey from their home to the Hauge in a golden horse-drawn carriage in a show of pomp not dissimilar to the British royals.
Queen Maxima wore a pastel blue and green dress with sheer selves and a beige hat with pink flowers.
The 47-year-old royal wore a ceremonial blue and gold sash across her body with a insignia star at her hip.
In the Ridderzaal, which translates to mean the Hall of Knights, the Monarch delivered a speech from the throne as his wife watched on.
Following the ceremony the couple were joined by the King’s younger brother Prince Constantijn, 48, and his wife Princess Laurentien, 52.
The royals waved to well wishers from the balcony of Noordeinde Royal Palace in The Hague.
