‘Queen’s favourite’ daughter-in-law celebrates NHS' 70th birthday at Westminster Abbey
Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 53, is the wife of Prince Andrew, marrying into the royal family in 1999.
Originally from Oxford, Sophie had a career in PR and with Capital Radio before meeting Prince Andrew.
Stepping up her public engagements recently the Countess was spotted today at Westminster Abbey.
She attended a service to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS, joined by the service’s patients and stage.
The National Health Service was founded in 1947 as one of the major social reforms following the Second World War.
For the service Sophie wore an elegant, tailored dress that came to her calves.
Panelled and cinched in around the waist, the dress gave the 53-year-old a structured silhouette.
The panelling ran the whole length of the dress, giving making her look tailored and polished.
With temperatures cooler today than in recent days, the Countess’ dress had three quarter length sleeves.
The dress was in a lovely shade of deep green, chasing not to wear the NHS’ signature colour of blue.
Sophie also chose to wear a risqué neckline, featuring a very deep v neck showing off her décolletage.
As the ceremony was taking place in Westminster Abbey, Sophie opted for an elegant cream and feather hat.
Placed at a jaunty angle and in the shape of a saucer, it was decorated with what appeared to be straw material and bird’s feathers.
Placed under her copy of the service’s programme, she matched the hat with a cream clutch bag.
She finished the outfit off with a simple pair of nude court heels with a pointed toe.
The mother-of-two accessorised with some rather eye-catching pieces, a large silver brooch, silver watch and sparkly silver bracelet, along with large diamond earrings.
She kept her hair and makeup simple, going for a nude pink lip and wearing her blonde hair coiffed beneath her statement hat.
A stark contrast to her minimalist and chic attire for the service today, Sophie was spotted a few weeks ago suffering a fashion flop.
Visiting Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in Essex, she wore a bright floral maxi shirt dress.
The bold print featured poppies in red, purple, green and blue pattern.
