Real Madrid hold 2AM MEETING and consider appointing Liverpool boss Klopp as new manager
The La Liga giants were in crisis last night after being thrashed 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League last 16 by Ajax.
After winning the first leg in Amsterdam 2-1, the general feeling was that the holders would ease their way into the quarter-finals of the competition.
But the Eredivisie side had other ideas and totally dominated proceedings in a sublime team performance that left Florentino Perez holding crunch talks.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Perez held talks among club officials until as late as 2am in the early hours of Wednesday morning after the defeat.
The 71-year-old and other key members of the board began hatching a plan for the remainder of the season and beyond.
Those in attendance weighed in on the current situation at the club who have suffered a significantly damaging week which also included two defeats to Barcelona.
They decided that Santiago Solari will remain in charge until the end of the season as they do not see the point in sacking him now.
That being said, they confirmed that they would relieve the Argentine of his duties at the end of the season as he is not the man to carry the club forward.
Now sitting twelve points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and out of both the Copa del Rey and Champions League, there is really nothing of note to play for.
A number of different coaches were then put forward as possible candidates for the permanent job starting next season.
The names that were mentioned were Jose Mourinho, Massimiliano Allegri, Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp and Joachim Low.
Meetings will continue to take place between now and the end of the season with the squad set for a major revamp.
It would take something rather special to prise Klopp away from Liverpool given that he is currently in the middle of a long-term project.
Pochettino though is set to decide his Tottenham future at the end of the season.
The Argentine remains determined to be the first Spurs boss to manage at the new White Hart Lane however he has warned Daniel Levy that if he is not willing to spend, it may leave Pochettino with a decision to make.
Mourinho’s name was heard being chanted by some supporters outside the Bernabeu after last night’s defeat to Ajax and a return to the club could be on the cards given his availability.
