Sicario 2: Will there be Sicario 3? Will there be a Sicario trilogy?

The US government learns two Mexican cartels may be smuggling terrorists into the United States through Mexico.

Del Toro and Brolin come together to begin a US-sanctioned war between the two cartels in hopes of thwarting their terrorist plans.

The Sicario 2015 movie was directed by Denis Villeneuve, but the Sicario: Day of the Soldado sequel was helmed by Italian director Stefano Sollima.

Will there be Sicario 3? Will there be a Sicario trilogy?

Soldado is in fact the second film in what is expected to be a Sicario trilogy.

Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan reportedly “kicked around the idea that this was going to be a trilogy,” Sicario co-producer Trent Luckinbill told The Hollywood Reporter.

“He has a lot of ideas of where he could take these characters,” Luckinbill said.

FBI agent Kate Macer, played by Emily Blunt, was conspicuously absent from the sequel.

However, Luckinbill told THR she would likely reprise her role for a third Sicario movie.

“Taylor has a master plan,” Luckinbill added.

“For this one, I think he really just wanted to explore Josh and Benicio’s characters.”

Whatever Taylor’s idea for the third Sicario movie might be, he’s playing it close to the vest.

Stefano Sollima told THR he knows that Taylor Sheridan has something in mind for the third film, but the writer hasn’t shared it with him yet.

Sollima also discussed the trilogy with The Independent, saying: “the idea is to make three anthology movies with some of the core actors and [set] in the same world.”

Del Toro expressed his support for a third Sicario movie.

“I’d be interested to see where he takes it from here,” Benicio del Toro has said.

“That’s what he said, but we don’t know if there’s going to be a third. But if it does come about, I’m willing to tackle it,” he added.
