Star Wars 9: Filming PHOTOS reveal major scene – and exciting reunion for THESE characters

The actors – who play Finn and Poe respectively – were seen alongside Joonas Suotamo, who plays Chewbacca, and a large number of extras.

The moment was filmed near London just yesterday, where some moments of rain were thought to have temporarily halted production.

Suotamo even had to take shelter under an umbrella at one point, presumably in a bid to protect his costume.

With the extras in oversized camouflage gear and some horses kitted-out to look like mystery creatures, all signs point to this being part of a fairly major sequence in the upcoming blockbuster.

Poe and Finn shared a lot of screen-time in Episode 7 but considerably less in Episode 8, so fans will be happy to see them teaming up once again as the current story nears its conclusion. What exactly this big-scale scene involves and where it slots into the movie remains to be seen.

Episode 9 is being helmed by JJ Abrams – who previously looked after Star Wars‘ big comeback hit The Force Awakens – and began filming at the start of the month.

Other returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran and Billie Lourd.

Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell are joining as new characters, with veteran actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams reprising their iconic roles of Luke Skywalker, C-3P0 and Lando Calrissian respectively.

Carrie Fisher is also expected to appear as General Leia, using footage she filmed for previous movies before her death in 2016.

Abrams said: “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher.

“Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character.

“With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Boyega shared a lot of screentime with Tran in Episode 8, and she has recently spoken out about the racist abuse she received from the uglier side of the Star Wars fanbase – which got so bad that she ultimately quit Instagram.

“Their words seemed to confirm what growing up as a woman and a person of color already taught me: that I belonged in margins and spaces, valid only as a minor character in their lives and stories,” she wrote for the New York Times.

“I know that I now belong to a small group of privileged people who get to tell stories for a living, stories that are heard and seen and digested by a world that for so long has tasted only one thing.

“I know how important that is. And I am not giving up.”

Filming photos emerged yesterday of grassy terrain not dissimilar to Endor, while Abrams also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of an unknown interior location.

This will be the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga, although future Star Wars movies are planned – including a whole trilogy helmed by Rian Johnson.

Other spin-off ventures such as an Obi-Wan Kenobi tale have been long-rumoured but remain unconfirmed.

Star Wars: Episode 9 is out in December 2019.
