Star Wars 9 HUGE plot twist confirmed by THIS on set image: Can it fix the backlash?

The Last Jedi left the filmmakers with some huge problems.

Some are of their own making and one was utterly beyond their control. The fan backlash was probably completely unexpected but has caused major repercussions across the franchise. They are unhappy at the death of Luke Skywalker and unsatisfied with Rey’ seemingly inexplicable untrained abilities with the Force.

How can JJ Abrams pick up what was left by Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy after Episode 8, both in terms of plot and tone?

The new picture from the Episode 9 set confirms one major fan theory about the movie was correct and may explain how Abrams and Lucasfim will handle the ending of The Last Jedi.

Boyega posted a lovely image of himself welcoming new cast member Naomi Ackie.

It is not where the picture is taken, nor what he is wearing that provides a huge clue to the opening of Episode 9.

It is his hair.

This may sound crazy, especially since all the principal cast were reported to be getting major new looks for the movie, but Boyega’s new hairstyle doesn’t so much impact his character as to how and WHEN the next movie will pick up.

The Last Jedi left the rebel forces in total decimated disarray with no help in sight, while Kylo Ren is now the head of an incredibly powerful and well-organised war machine.

It also left Leia alive, if badly injured, while Carrie Fisher herself suddenly passed away just after the film was released.

The death of Leia and the new resurgence of a rebuilt Rebel Alliance could only be best handled with some sort of time jump between Episodes 8 and 9. This would also possibly allow time for Rey to at least to appear to train, although how she can be taught with no surviving Jedi masters is a mystery.

Boyega’s new hairstyle for Finn shows that considerable time has, indeed, passed.

A recent announcement by Lucasfilm already revealed that Carrie Fisher would be seen again on screen as Leia, using unseen footage shot for The Force Awakens.

Whether this will be somehow shaped into new scenes or used for a flashback sequence is unknown.

What is clear is that the main narrative needs to jump forwrad to allow time for the final showdown that will, hopefully, bring a satisfying and redemptive end to the entire Skywalker saga.
