Star Wars 9 leak: 'Anakin AND Vader Force ghost appears in THIS scene' but to who?
Are fans going to get exactly what they want in Episode 9?
With a house divided at the very last minute, Star Wars needs some major poins to be scored in the final movie of a five-decade journey.
An incredible new report describes the concept art for a potentially mind-blowing (and fan-pleasing) scene with Klyo Ren, Darth Vader AND Anakin. All at once.
It was already known that JJ Abrams had ideas to include Anakin in The Force Awakens in some way. The official concept art released after Episode 7 revealed that an Anakin Force ghost had been planned.
There have also been consistent reports that Abrams is dedicated to referencing and bring in Original Trilogy content and themes.
The new report said: “One of the concept art descriptions consists of Anakin’s ghost.”
Not only that, but it will be: “A mix between Vader and himself. Many phases of Anakin’s ghost, shifting between Vader and himself, surrounding a man on his knees in a dark chamber.”
The tantalising scene described seems to indicate there will be a flickering ring of different Anakin and Vader incarnations, since they are “surrounding” the man on his knees.
This kneeling figure can only be the eternally tormented Kylo Ren.
There had been huge hopes that maybe Luke would have a visit from his father’s Force Ghost at some point, but now that he himself can only return to the screen as a ghost, there is only one family member left.
Kylo Ren, or Ben Solo as he was, has already been shown to be obsessed with his grandfather. Kylo collects old Vader artefacts like the crumpled helmet from his funeral pyre. Kylo has also been shown ‘talking’ to the memory of his idolised Skywalker grandfather.
Surely this is the perfect way for JJ Abrams to reunite the previous Star Wars trilogies, and even reunite the fractured fan base?
Surprisingly, early fan reactions to this report have not embraced the idea of Vader returning in this way.
One said: “He died Anakin. His ghost should be Anakin, not Vader.”
Another added: “Hayden needs to return as Anakin, it only makes sense. The first six films were about his fall and redemption, he is as integral to the franchise as Luke and cannot be ignored… It would tie the three trilogies together.”
However, showing both sides of Anakin and Vader is a tantalising concept which would make great cinema, but also perfectly illustrate the inner battle Kylo is constantly waging between the Light and Dark sides of his soul.
It has always seemed that Anakin worships Vader without knowing the full story of Anakin’s fall. Will he finally learn his family’s dark secrets?
This makes perfect sense thematically and for the ongoing plot, since Anakin and Kylo’s journeys mirror each other – but most fans are resistant to the idea that the young Sith apprentice and new First Order leader can be redeemed.
After all, he not only killed his own father, he killed one of the most iconic and beloved characters in cinema history.
Abrams will have his work cut out selling that idea.
