Star Wars 9 leak: Heartbreaking Kylo Ren Anakin AND Darth Vader scene revealed?
The fan backlash following the release of The Last Jedi made one thing very clear. Whatever the wildly conflicting views on the treatment of Rey, Snoke and Kylo Ren, all fans want more classic Star Wars content.
Episode IX director JJ Abrams has declared he will bring in as much prequel trilogy and original trilogy material as possible.
Darth Vader’s story was the heart of all six films and his shock appearance in Rogue One was the biggest fan-pleasing moment of the entire movie.
It seems inconceivable that the original Skywalker will not appear in the final movie and new leaks have just revealed one key scene that embraces both sides of his character.
The concept of Force ghosts was established in The Empire Strikes Back and cemented in Return of the Jedi.
However Abrams also introduced the idea of Force visions in The Force Awakens.
Speculation is rife whether Anakin and/or Darth Vader (not to mention Luke Skywalker) will appear in visions, memories or as actual ghosts.
The new scene description gives a tantalising clue.
The report describes supposedly leaked concept art for the movie.
The new reports says: “(It shows) Kylo Ren standing in what appears to be a new throne room for himself. In front of him is a window, a wide window looking out to space. In the window is a reflection of what seems to be a hybrid Force ghost of Anakin’s face – half of which is Anakin, half of which is Vader.”
Most notably similar leaks from the same source accurately described Luke’s final moment on the meditation rock on Ahch-To.
Official Force Awakens companion art books released alongside the movie also confirmed that Abrams had originally planned to introduce a hybrid Anakin/Vader ghost in Episode VII.
Mark Hamill is confirmed for Episode IX even though his character died, so there will clearly be more Force visions or ghosts.
The latest leak calls this apparition a “force ghost” however it is just as possible it could be a vision.Abrams and Rian Johnson have both played with visions of the past (and possibly the future) as well as visualisations of the inner turmoil a character is facing, such as Rey’s confusing mirrored selves in the cave scene from The Last Jedi.
Kylo Ren is tormented by the pull towards the Light ad Dark sides and looks to his grandfather as Vader as his idol. Showing both sides would be a powerful emotional way to drive home how torn Kylo (formerly Ben Solo) is.
Will he speak to the vision as he did to Vader’s helmet in The Force Awakens?
Even more tantalising is the prospect that Vader and Anakin might speak back.
Will this be the way Star Wars brings back Hayden Christensen’s Anakin one last time? Fans will be hoping so…
