Star Wars 9 leaks: Rey's parents REVEALED in new scene on jungle planet?

So, are Rey’s parents important or not?

The Force Awakens hyped up anticipation for the revelation that she was a Skywalker, Kenobi, Palpatine clone, immaculate Force conception, or related to any one of a string of tantalising iconic legacy characters.

The Last Jedi virtually trolled fans by teasing the big reveal throughout the movie (including that mirror scene in the cave on Ahch-To) before Kylo Ren shattered every expectation with the declaration that she was “nobody” and her parents had sold her for drinking money.

Hardly the stuff of legends, which was exactly the point but not exactly what many fans were hoping for. Is JJ Abrams about to set things right with these new leaked scenes?

The biggest hope many fans have is that Kylo was lying in order to sway Rey to his side. Either that, or he believed what he was saying but he himself had been mislead.

Episode 9 has started filming and numerous leaks and reports have alrady started to describe scenes, storyboards, set designs, concept art and new planets – including a much-rumoured new jungle planet.

The latest leak describes two storyboard designs: “One of which goes over, quite possibly, Rey’s parents. (It shows) a rear shot of Rey with an ignited lightsaber coloured blue. The environment around her is jungle-like at night.

“In front of her are two figures glowing white. One male and female holding their hands out to Rey.” 

“The next has the female’s hand touching Rey’s face, similar to what Han Solo did before Han Solo died.”

This refers to Solo’s devastating dying moments when he touched his son’s face before he tumbled off the catwalk at Starkiller Base.

There had previously been leaked descriptions of a scene with a young girl and two adults, one male and female, that appeared to describe the moment Rey’s parents left her on Jakku.

If so much effort is being put into such scenes, it implies they are more than just alcoholic junk traders.

The fact they are glowing white also raises intriguing possibilities.

If one or both of her parenst do turn out to be Jedi, it is worth noting that Force ghosts usually glow blue not white.

Perhaps they are part of one of her visions as she relives the moment her mother touched her face as a girl. Perhaps they are even some sort of projection, a message from the past recorded by desperate parents who have been forced to abandon their child.

It is also worth remembering to take all and any leaks and reports with a hefty pinch of salt. Nothing is set in stone until the movie hits cinema in December 2019 and even now JJ Abrams is said to be rewriting key scenes from Colin Trevorrow’s original script.
