Star Wars 9 release: When is Star Wars 9 released? When is it out in the UK and US?
Major franchise movies, like Marvel, James Bond, and of course Star Wars, have to take plenty into consideration when they plan release dates.
Location is just one of them.
With different release dates in different countries, fans (and distributors) become susceptible to spoilers and potentially dwindling box office numbers.
Star Wars is no exception.
When is Star Wars Episode 9 out in the UK?
Star Wars Episode 9, currently in production under the working title of trIXie, will arrive in UK cinemas on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
The final instalment in the Skywalker saga started filming on August 1 at London’s Pinewood Studios.
The United Kingdom isn’t the first country to be treated to Episode 9, however.
STAR WARS EPISODE 9 LEAK: WHAT ARE LUKE SKYWALKER’S TWO SCENES IN IX?
Both France and Sweden will see Episode 9 in cinemas on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
But rest assured, the UK will have a full day on the United States.
When is Star Wars Episode 9 out in the USA?
Fans in America will have to wait until Friday, December 20, 2019, to see Rey and the gang back in action.
A day gap is unlikely to cause too much consternation for the space saga, but fans should still remain clear of Twitter if they wish to stay spoiler free.
JJ Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens, returns to the director’s chair for Episode 9, having co-written the screenplay with Chris Terrio.
Terrio is known for his work on Argo, Justice League, and Batman V Superman.
Episode 9 may be bringing about the end of the Skywalker story, but Rian Johnson (director of the controversial The Last Jedi) has a whole new trilogy of his own to play with.
STAR WARS EPISODE 9 TRAILER: WHEN CAN FANS FINALLY EXPECT A TRAILER?
There is also the potential for spin-offs, despite rumours of the stand-alone Star Wars flicks being put on the backburner after Solo’s lacklustre returns.
Episode 9 still has plenty of time before its release date, but there are several tidbits of cold, hard facts for fans to parse.
Reprising their roles are Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Oscar Isaac.
Star Wars veterans Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams are also returning to Episode 9.
Whether the former may appear as a Force ghost or in flashback scenes remains to be confirmed, while the latter will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.
Episode IX also will feature Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, quelling the fears of fans.
By using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, Leia will be back for the final chapter of her own story.
Newcomers to Star Wars 9 cast include Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, and Richard E. Grant, all in unidentified roles.
With no confirmed title (but plenty of theories) Episode 9 is still a long way from completion, but that won’t stop fans from theorising.
Star Wars: Episode 9 is in UK cinemas December 19 and USA cinemas December 20, 2019.
