Star Wars 9: What role will Luke Skywalker’s Force ghost play in Episode IX?
Back in 2015 Star Wars fans were looking forward to Hamill’s return as Luke in The Force Awakens.
The actor hadn’t been in a Star Wars movie since 1983’s Return of the Jedi, however he only appeared in the very final scene of the film – and one in which he had no dialogue.
Nevertheless he made a big return in 2017’s follow-up, The Last Jedi getting a mixed reaction from fans regarding director Rian Johnson’s new take on Luke.
And by the end of the movie the Jedi had died and become one with the Force, just as Obi-Wan Kenobi did in A New Hope.
Of course fans will remember Obi-Wan returned as a Force ghost to train Luke in his fight against Darth Vader.
So now with Rey facing Kylo Ren in Episode IX, she’s going to need all the help she can get.
Lucky for her Hamill has been confirmed in the cast for the last episode of not just the sequel trilogy but the entire Skywalker saga.
No doubt he will be back to advise her, just as Yoda turned up to chat with Luke in The Last Jedi.
