The Joker release date: When is the Joker movie released in the UK and USA?

The Joker is Warner Bros latest attempt at shaking up their DC Comics adaptation.

Todd Phillips is the movie’s director and co-screenwriter, and famed Martin Scorcese as producer.

The Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix (best known for Gladiator and Walk the Line) in the titular role.

Those unhappy with the Jared Leto version of the clown prince of crime may be delighted to see a new face in the role of the Joker.

When is the Joker released in the UK and USA?

As of writing, the Joker movie only has a USA release date.

The film will head to cinemas Stateside on October 4, 2019.

Other countries will have to wait for their release date.

Joker is set to be quite a different movie from the rest of the DC extended Universe.

The standalone film has a budget of £42 million ($55 million) which is far less than most of Warner Bros DC adaptations.

Filming for Joker is taking place right now in New York City’s Harlem neighbourhood.

Set photos and even a video have been leaked online, showing a gaunt Joaquin Phoenix in street clothes – a long time before he became the maniacally-grinning villain.

Few plot details are known, except the movie “centre on how the popular comic book villain known as The Joker came to be.”

Set sometime in the 1980s, the Joker, whose name before his transformation has been revealed to be Arthur Fleck, is a comedian down on his luck.

Other cast mates include the inimitable Robert DeNiro, whose long relationship with Scorcese will be sure to add an element of bonafide noir to the movie.

Deadpool 2 breakout star Zazie Beetz will play the single mother Sophie Dumond, who according to The Hollywood Reporter catches the eye of Fleck.

Prolific actress Frances Conroy, perhaps best known by contemporary audiences from American Horror Story, is rumoured to be playing a woman named Penny, the Joker’s mother.

With more than a year from release, there is still plenty of time for speculations and leaks to flood the internet.

Joker is in cinemas on October 4, 2019.
