The Met Gala best and worst looks of all time
The Costume Institute Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the biggest events in the fashion calendar.
Also known as the Met Gala, the 2018 do will be held on May 7 and marks the event’s 70th anniversary.
The red carpet is always awash with A-list celebrities, singers and models who are dressed to impress in eye-catching and innovative outfits.
Who could forget Rihanna’s jaw-dropping yellow gown that she wore to the 2015 Met Gala? The Imperial yellow fur-trimmed dress was created by Chinese designer Guo Pei and certainly made a bold statement.
Another singer who never fails to create a talking point with her outlandish fashion choices is Madonna. At the 2016 Met Gala the Material Girl wore a sheer Givenchy dress to make a political statement to fight ageism and sexism.
Other iconic looks include Sarah Jessica Parker in an Alexander McQueen tartan design, Katy Perry head-to-toe in a red veil and gown, and Kim Kardashian in a futuristic inspired silver dress designed by Balmain.
Each gala follows a different theme with previous themes including Manus x Machina and Punk: Chaos to Couture.
This year’s theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
The event has been hosted by US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour since 1995 and this year, Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace will co-chair.
Look through this gallery to see the best and worst fashion of all time at the Met Gala from Madonna to Rihanna.
