The Nun star speaks out on trailer 'ban' for being 'TOO SCARY' – 'It's a badge of honour'

Last month a test trailer for the movie was removed from the video platform after being deemed “inappropriate”.

YouTube confirmed in a statement: “We value diversity and respect for others, and we strive to avoid offending or shocking users with ads, websites, or apps that are inappropriate for our ad network.”

It was a fairly standard jump-scare surprise-scream videos but it still caused quite the stir – and now Hardy has said the minor furore was something of a “badge of honour”.

“It’s a really nice, unexpected part of the promotion of this movie,” he told ScreenRant.

“I mean, you can’t plan that sort of thing.”

He added: “At the same time, I didn’t want to upset anyone. And if people genuinely were having a bad time watching the trailer, I mean, then I wouldn’t want to offend them.

“So, maybe it should have been taken down. But, yeah, it’s a certain badge of honour.”

Unfortunately few critics have agreed with the idea that the film itself is scary.

The horror – part of the Conjuring franchise – has amassed a mere 32% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The consensus reads: “ The Nun boasts strong performances, spooky atmospherics, and a couple decent set-pieces, but its sins include inconsistent logic and narrative slackness.”

Variety wrote: “There is rarely any sense that anyone involved with The Nun takes anything here too seriously, and audiences are advised to respond in kind.”

San Francisco Chronicle agreed: “The dazzling effects can’t mask a slow narrative.

“Also, creaky floors, jump scares – and just about every horror cliche we can think of – can only take the movie so far.”

New York Observer gave a lowly one-out-of-four rating, saying: “Do any of these various jump scares ever register? Not really.

“For that to happen, the movie would have to have built up tension and suspense, which I guess it figures it isn’t required to do.”

The Nun is out now.
