Top Gun 2 cast: Who stars in Top Gun sequel? Are Goose and Maverick back?

Top Gun has long been held in the hearts of fans young and old, and now a new generation will be treated to the antics of Maverick and the gang.

Who is in the cast of Top Gun: Maverick?

So far, the list of confirmed actors in the Top Gun cast is slim.

Fear not, Tom Cruise is reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Tom Cruise’s Maverick will now be flying an F/A-18 Super Hornet.

As for Goose, the answer is not so clear.

Goose met his end during the first Top Gun movie.

However, Anthony Edwards petitioned, humorously, for a “Ghost Goose” to be included in the sequel, nothing has been confirmed.

Miles Teller was recently cast as Bradley Bradshaw the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw.

Val Kilmer was ready for a sequel long before Top Gun 2 was officially announced, and his return to the franchise was widely anticipated.

He is set to return to the role of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, Maverick’s rival in the first Top Gun movie.

Kelly McGillis, who played Cruise’s love interest in the first movie, has not been confirmed as returning, though she told the Independent in 2014 she would be happy to cameo.

Skydance CEO David Ellison confirmed the plot of Top Gun: Maverick to Collider.

“It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters.”

He added: “It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today.”

As of yet, there’s no trailer to speak of yet, but a likely date for one will be November or December 2018.

Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled for a Friday, July 12, 2019 release.
