Transformers prequel Bumblebee STUNS fans with new trailer – here's why
The Transformers series, despite good box office collections, has suffered from terrible reviews – but this new prequel, without Michael Bay, could be its best entry yet.
Hailee Steinfeld stars in the sci-fi film, which is set twenty years before the events of 2007’s Transformers.
With Travis Knight in the director’s seat, it’s due for release this December and could be one of the big hits of the festive season.
Transformers has been trending all morning on Twitter as potential moviegoers flock to watch the new trailer – and many who weren’t keen on Bay’s work have expressed surprise at how excited they are to see this.
Said one person: “This film looks very much like the answer to the question ‘Well if you don’t like the Michael Bay Transformers films, what the hell kind of Transformers film DO you want?’”
Another wrote: “As a die hard G1 Transformers fan who doesn’t care for bayformers.. This trailer actually excites me.”
A third posted: “I … actually … want to see the next Transformers movie? What is happening. I’m scared.”
“i can’t believe we’re getting a transformers movie where the transformers look like transformers and not like polygonal vomit,” joked someone else.
The film sees Bumblebee taking refuge in a small Californian beach town junkyard, where a teenage girl, Charlie (Steinfeld), takes him in.
However the pair soon find themselves wanted by a government agency known as Sector 7, led by Agent Burns (John Cena).
As they run, Bumblebee and Charlie realise that the former isn’t the only Transformer on Earth – but the others of its kind may not be so friendly.
Other stars involved include Rachel Crow, formerly of The X Factor USA; plus Jorge Lendebog Jr, John Ortiz and Pamela Adlon.
Bay may not be directing but he is still listed as a producer; while the script was written by Christina Hodson and Kelly Fremon Craig.
The most recent Transformers movie was The Last Knight, released in June 2017.
It made a hefty $605.4 million at the box office but won only a 15% aggregated review score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bumblebee is out on December 21.
