Venom, directed by Ruben Fletcher – best known for Zombieland, is atypical for Marvel movie as its cast list is relatively small.

Confirmed leads so far are Tom Hardy as Venom/Eddie Brock and Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, a district attorney and Eddie’s girlfriend.

Venom’s baddie comes in the shape of Riz Ahmed (Rogue One, The Night Of) as Dr Carlton Drake.

The film, produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, will be released this October – but who else stars in the latest cartoon-based classic?

Is Woody Harrelson in Venom?

Yes, Woody Harrelson will take a role in Venom – but only a fraction of it as he’ll have a bigger role in the sequel, which is already being planned despite the first film still not having been released.

Woody Harrelson, whose face is in cinemas everywhere as Tobias Beckett in Solo: A Star Wars Story, recently confirmed his inclusion in the Venom cast list.

“I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?” Harrelson said, though he revealed nothing about his character.

So what character is he set to play?

Harrelson was reticent to give away too many details.

He told Collider: “I thought it was under wraps that I’m even in the movie,” and decided not to divulge anything else.

However, speculation based on this is he’ll take up the role of Carnage, a villain in both Venom movies, though not taking up much screen time in the first.

Harrelson worked with Venom director Ruben Fleischer on the dark comedy Zombieland.

Harrelson described taking a chance on Venom as a roll of the dice.

He was unable to read a script for the sequel, in which he’d have a bigger role, before signing on to the first Venom film.

But Harrelson was still optimistic, citing Tom Hardy’s acting prowess and his previous relationship with Fleischer as positive indicators.

Though Venom is part of the larger Marvel comic universe, Marvel Studios has no plans to integrate it with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So Marvel fans can count out a Venom meets Captain America movie then.

Venom is in cinemas October 5, 2018.
