'We won, it's happening' Watch Jacob Rees-Mogg's rousing Brexit speech at Tory conference

Speaking at a fringe event at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, the leading Brexiteer called for the audience to get behind Theresa May. 

Mr Rees-Mogg also took a swipe at the EU, as he urged Brexit supporters to push the benefits of leaving the EU to the rest of Britain, especially to younger voters. 

Broadcast on Channel 4 News, he said: “We need to be reiterating the benefits of Brexit, because this is, oh this is so important in the history of our country. 

“I mean this is Magna Carta, it’s the Burgesses coming at Parliament, it’s the great Reform Bill, it’s the bill of rights, it’s so many… It’s Waterloo, it’s Agincourt, it’s Crecy, We win all these things.”

A member of the audience interrupted the Brexiteer and shouted out “don’t forget Trafalgar.”

Jacob Rees-Mogg continued: “And Trafalgar. Absolutely.

“This is such a positive thing for our country. It frees us from a failing economic model. This is a liberation, it is a freedom, it is an inspiration. 

“We must make those arguments and young people will love it. Because we will be telling young people that they will determine their lives rather than having them determined for them by Monsieur Juncker. And that must seem to me to be a more attractive prospect.

“Be of good cheer, we won, it’s happening. And now what we have got to do, we have to back Theresa May, that her position needs to remain solid and well supported by all Conservatives to get the Brexit deal done.

“No faffing around about alternatives to Mrs May. She is our leader, she needs our support, she deserves our support.”

Mr Rees-Mogg was greeted with a massive cheer by the audience throughout his speech at the conference. 

The speech from the MP for North East Somerset comes after he was interrupted by angry protesters earlier in the day. 

Security has now been tightened around the Conservative Party conference after the demonstration by anti-Tory protesters, who yelled “Tories out” while holding posters displaying the same message.

The Telegraph’s Michael Deacon tweeted about the altercation and claimed Mr Rees-Mogg was “unruffled” by the confrontation.
