Wonder Woman 2 news: How is Chris Pine alive in Wonder Woman sequel?
At that point, Wonder Woman fans weren’t sure if they’d see their favourite war pilot Steve Trevor, played by Chris Pine, return from the explosion that supposedly killed him.
But in a superhero movie, nothing is to be taken for granted.
Recent pictures tweeted by Wonder Woman’s director Patty Jenkins showed Steve Trevor alive and well, if a bit confused, and donned in typical 80s gear.
Steve Trevor was Wonder Woman’s love interest, and he died helping Wonder Woman save the world, seemingly never to return.
WONDER WOMAN: IS GAL GADOT PRODUCING A MOVIE ABOUT FIDEL CASTRO?
With equal parts enthusiasm and scepticism, fans have been digesting the news that Chris Pine will return for Wonder Woman 1984.
One of the selling points of the first Wonder Woman movie was the chemistry between Gadot and Pine.
The character of Steve Trevor never got in Wonder Woman’s way, nor doubted her abilities and strength.
Trevor was given a detailed enough character arc to not only make him a believable love interest for Diana Prince but also a significant character in his own right, making his death not only impactful for Wonder Woman but its audiences too.
WONDER WOMAN VS SUPERMAN: WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT? WONDER WOMAN POWERS LISTED
Movie-only fans of the DC Comics verse may view Trevor’s return with a healthy dose of apprehension but his resurrection has a strong foundation in the comics.
There are several Wonder Woman comic issues that see Trevor alive after his heroic self-sacrifice, but the one that makes the most sense for Wonder Woman 1984 is coming No. 332 which was released, aptly, in 1984.
A Steve Trevor from another world crashed on Paradise Island in Wonder Woman No. 270 leading to the goddess of love Aphrodite wiping Trevor’s mind and implanting his body with original-Trevor’s memories, kept safe within her son Eros.
The connection in publication-year may hint towards a similar, hopefully slightly less complicated, reason behind Trevor’s resurrection for Wonder Woman 1984.
Nothing is sacred in the DC universe, and it is equally likely the Steve Trevor pictured in the Wonder Woman 1984 photos is not the original, but a front for a more sinister character.
Any definitive answers about Trevor’s return in Wonder Woman 1984 probably won’t be given until the movie lands in cinemas, fans will be relieved to know that Chris Pine has a continued part in the Wonder Woman franchise.
As Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkin’s said: “Welcome to WONDER WOMAN 1984, Steve Trevor! #WW84”
Wonder Woman 1984 is due to be released in November 2019.
