X-Men Dark Phoenix TRAILER: Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey is ‘all RAGE and pain’ (WATCH)

Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey takes centre stage as we see her development into a young woman struggling with deep conflict.

“She’s all rage, pain, and it’s all coming out at once,” Professor Charles Xavier warns.

Turner revealed the clip on last night’s Late Late Show with James Corden, ahead of the movie’s release next February.

We also get a glimpse of Jessica Chastain as villain Smith in the clip – which you can see above.

The synopsis reads: “In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey.

“During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable.

“Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain.”

It adds: “With Jean spiralling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together.

“Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite – not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponise this force and rule the galaxy.”

Jennifer Lawrence is back as Mystique, with Nicholas Hoult as Beast and Michael Fassbender as Magneto.

James McAvoy reprises his role as Professor X, while Evan Peters is Quicksilver and Tye Sheridan is Cyclops.

Alexandra Shipp and Kodi Smit-McPhee also star, with Simon Kinberg directing.

It’s been a bumpy few days for Dark Phoenix: after the trailer was reportedly shown in Russia, a low-quality version soon leaked online.

But now it’s officially online for fans to watch, excitement is sure to build – despite delays in the release from its initial due date of March this year.

Sure enough the film has been trending on Twitter since the trailer dropped – and the response is generally mixed.

“So #XMenDarkPhoenix trailer… It doesn’t look bad… But I need to see more,” wrote one viewer.

“#XMenDarkPhoenix looks cool but a few things bug me from the trailer,” posted another. “They never seem to age? I hate Storm’s hair. I wish they had their 90s animated series costumes considering the setting. The premise of this film seemed too much like The Last Stand.”

A third said: “Very solid first trailer. Nothing that blew me away but I’m quite sure Sophie and Fassbender will be great in this at the very least. #XMenDarkPhoenix.”

“Trailer looks ok,” remarked someone else. “Sophie Turner is looking great as Jean Grey and in Game of Thrones she showed that she is a good actress. Big problem of the movies is the chaotic timeline. Hope it will be good and not another #Apocalypse.”

It remains to be seen when and how the X-Men will be integrated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe off the back of Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Dark Phoenix is out on February 14, 2019.
