Former EU President Martin Schulz BLASTS Donald Trump for creating ‘un-American’ policies
Martin Schulz, the former president of the European Union, issued a stern warning to the President and said if he replaced Angela Merkel to became chancellor of Germany, he would distance the country and the rest of Europe from Trump’s reach.
Schulz said: “What Trump is doing is un-American.
“If Trump is now driving a wrecking ball through this set of values, then I will tell him as chancellor: That’s not the policy of Germany and Europe.”
Schulz’s scathing attack on President Trump comes a day after he branded populist leaders including the US President as “Pied Pipers”, who “capitalise on the backs of refugees”.
The 61-year-old then turned his anger towards Vladimir Putin, and said the sanctions imposed against Russia could only be lifted after both sides implemented the Minsk plan.
Schulz said: “As long as the Minsk peace agreement is not fully implemented, the sanctions cannot be lifted.
“We must tell Putin very clearly that Russia is obliged to respect and defend international law.”
Although Merkel and Schulz face a brutal battle for the role of chancellor, they have become united in their criticism for the 70-year-old business mogul turned President.
On Monday, Merkel said Trump’s order to restrict people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States violates the spirit of international cooperation.
Since Schulz confirmed he will run in the forthcoming September German elections he vowed to redefine Germany and oust Merkel.
The 61-year-old said he wants to give Germany a “new start that cannot happen with the Christian Democratic Union” because the country has come to the end of what can be achieved with the “divided conservatives”.
