Aquaman deleted scenes: Gruesome cut moment had ‘clouds of BLOOD’, director reveals

Director James Wan has revealed one moment in Will Beall’s original screenplay that would have involved a lot of sharks, and a lot of blood. But it seems as if it was all a little too intense to make it to camera, and to the finished product. In a new interview, he’s opened up on what exactly it would have entailed.

“[Beall] had a really quirky out-there [sequence],” he said, according to Dark Horizons.

“It wasn’t the studio, it was me that said, ‘I don’t know if we can have that in there, that’s a bit weird.’ As much as I loved it.

“He had this sequence where… Aquaman has been apprehended by King Orm and he’s been thrown into this dungeon. Like this really awful prison deep in Atlantis.

“He ends up starting a prison riot, where all the guards are sharks.”

He added: “They were shark-guards, like all shark head… and he kills one of the shark guards and the shark starts bleeding and then that starts a feeding frenzy among all the other shark guards.

“It just went nuts. We’re talking like clouds of blood billowing everywhere and he uses that to escape.

“I was like ‘Holy c**p, I don’t know if I can do that.’”

What has been left in Aquaman has made it a hit in territories where it has already been released.

The movie is due out in cinemas in the US this Friday, but has already found international success.

Aquaman took a comfortable £5.23 million in its opening weekend in the UK, including previous – enough to take the No1 spot and leave Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse far behind on £2.28m.

To compare it with previous DC movies, it’s something of a downturn: without previews it had £3.82m, down on Justice League (£7.26m) and Wonder Woman (£4.96m).

But whether word of mouth will work in its favour remains to be seen.

Aquaman is out now in the UK.
