The Avengers take on the big purple titan, Thanos, as he attempts to collect the six infinity stones in the latest addition to the  Cinematic Universe.

The MCU, spanning 10 years and 19 movies, has brought in billions of dollars in worldwide ticket sales, becoming one of the highest grossing franchises of all time.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have become incredibly popular among cinema-goers, as Infinity War breaks new box office records.

Marvel has been making Tony Stark-level revenue since it started in 2008, but how much money has Infinity War made in the box office so far?

How many box office records has Avengers Infinity War broken?

The latest addition to the MCU has so far brought in a massive $1.606 billion worldwide, becoming the highest grossing Marvel film of all time.

The movie has broken six box office records so far: Biggest opening weekend, biggest worldwide opening, biggest superhero movie, biggest Saturday in North America, biggest Sunday in North America and the biggest opening of all time in numerous markets.

The Avengers 2012 was the previous record at $1.5 billion but has now been blown out of the park in just 17 days of cinema screenings.

The film was bolstered after it opening in the Chinese market, pushing its numbers by a Chinese-record-breaking $200 million in its opening weekend.

More than $280 million was made this weekend alone in foreign markets, creeping closer the the all-time opening record set by The Fate of the Furious at $443 million.

Infinity War is the record holder in total gross for bother the month of April and for Spring, bringing in $257 million on average per weekend.

Sitting fifth on the all-time highest grossing films, Avengers Infinity War is only behind Avatar ($2.7 billion), Titanic ($2.18 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2$2.06 billion), and Jurassic World ($1.6 billion).

Given that Avengers Infinity War is likely to continue raking in the cash throughout the rest of its expected 3-month cinema run, it could take the fourth spot by August.

In total, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made $16.460 billion worldwide, making it the highest grossing movie franchise ever.

Each Marvel film averages $866 million in total gross, spanning 10 years and 19 films.

What next for Avengers Infinity War?

Disney and Marvel Studios will be hoping that Infinity War can continue raking in the money and break into the top for highest grossing films of all time.

This week sees Deadpool 2 attempt to wrestle the top spot from Avengers but a series of high-profile movies could easily dislodge the crown.

Infinity War faces a new challenge later this month when the next Star Wars film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is released on May 24.

Given the huge popularity of the sci-fi franchise, Solo could be as much of a hit as 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which took £155 million in its opening weekend, or even 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi (£220 million).
