WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers 4, which is still pending an official title, is released next May – and, unsurprisingly, details are being kept fiercely under wraps.

However a first synopsis has been released, teasing huge “sacrifices” to be made by the surviving heroes.

ComicBookMovie.com editor Rochi Shion posted the blurb on Twitter after allegedly seeing it in License magazine.

It says: “A culmination of 22 interconnected films, the fourth instalment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey.

“Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”

Infinity War ended with the demise of multiple Marvel favourites, as they turned to ash when Thanos collected all of the Infinity Stones and executed the Snap; thus wiping out 50% of humanity.

Of those who remain, several of them are known to be coming up to the end of their contracts, and Chris Evans (Steve Rogers, aka Captain America) has openly said his time in the MCU has come to an end.

This, naturally, has driven many fans to assume that some of the surviving heroes will have to sacrifice their own lives in order to bring back those who were lost.

And while the directors, the Russo Brothers, have played down such a possibility, it is known that many of the dead – Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy, for instance – are due to reappear in their own new solo movies set after the events of Avengers 4.

It’s going to be a very slow year of drip-fed teasers and nuggets of information, so we have a while to go yet before anything is made clear.

In the meantime, Avengers: Infinity War continues to perform exceptionally well at the box office.

Although it has been dethroned from the No1 slot by Deadpool 2 last weekend, it continues to pull in millions globally – making it one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

Fans will return to the MCU with Ant-Man and the Wasp in July, then with Captain Marvel next March.

Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
