Britney Spears 'in secret discussions' for Super Bowl LII Halftime Show in 2018?
After Lady Gaga earned plaudits for her set earlier this year, is Britney Spears set to follow her in 2018?
The early signs certainly seem encouraging, with the New York Daily News claiming “secret discussions with television and advertising execs” have already taken place.
“Britney has made it clear to her team that it is a dream to perform at a Super Bowl,” an insider told the New York Daily News.
“She has the hits package and appeal to be a headliner.”
Rather than front an entire set by herself, however, it seems Spears “could also be packaged with other acts”.
Indeed, that was how she made her appearance back in 2001; when she took to the famous stage alongside N’Sync, Aerosmith, Nelly and Mary J Blige.
Spears’ live performances have received strong acclaim over recent years, thanks mainly to her residency in Las Vegas, which closes at the end of 2017 after four years.
She’s also recently performed several shows worldwide, with her live vocals at one point gaining online attention.
The hitmaker released her ninth studio album, Glory, last summer to general critical acclaim.
Despite unspectacular sales, it did become her highest-charting UK album ever; peaking at No2.
Other previous Super Bowl performers include Katy Perry, Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Madonna.
