The star released her last album Only Human back in 2014 and has spent recent months sporadically teasing fans that new material is on its way.

She was also seemingly photographed recording the music video for her next single earlier this month.

Now, one part of her comeback has been officially confirmed: a live performance.

She is part of the line-up for Hits Live, set to take place in Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester.

Cheryl will perform at the latter on Sunday, November 25 – indicating that new music is highly likely be in fans’ ears before then.

She joins Little Mix, Ellie Goulding, The Vamps, Zara Larsson, Mabel, Rak-Su and James Hype on the line-up.

Tickets are on sale now, with Hits Radio host Sarah Jane Crawford saying: “Hits Live is all about bringing some of pop’s biggest hitmakers together for one huge weekend of live music.

“With incredible artists across three cities, the only thing you’ll be missing is your voice the next day!”

The Liverpool leg on Friday, November 23 boasts George Ezra, Jess Glynne, Rita Ora, Jax Jones, Sigrid, Tom Walker, Rak-Su and James Hype.

And in Birmingham on Saturday, November 24 will be Olly Murs, Paloma Faith, Clean Bandit, Years and Years, Annie-Marie, James Arthur, Bebe Rexha, Rudimental and – again – Rak-Su.

Cheryl is also highly rumoured to perform on The X Factor live shows at some point over the coming weeks.

“Nicola [Roberts, former Girls Aloud bandmate] and I wrote every track together,” she told The Sun of the new album earlier this year.

“It’s been great working with one of my best friends, but I’m really proud of the album and excited for people to hear the new music.

“It’s pretty much finished. At this stage we’re deciding what will be the first single.

“We’re choosing between about three songs, but that’s quite a nice problem to have.”

She added: “Thankfully I’m not looking at it, saying, ‘Oh God, all this work and we don’t have a hit record’. I think we do.”

Cheryl has five solo number ones to her name: Fight For This Love, Promise This, Call My Name, Crazy Stupid Love and I Don’t Care.
