CNN News: Awkward moment economist called to bash Trump's policy leaves TV host BAFFLED

Speaking on CNN News, the American economic policy analyst claimed the US economy was “radically” growing making him “proud” of being an American. 

On Friday, a jobs report for the month of July published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics stated US employers added 157,000 jobs last month, fewer than expected under the administration of Donald Trump. 

Economists had expected the jobs report to show nonfarm payrolls increasing by 193,000 on net.

The job gains in June were revised higher.

The unemployment rate fell to 3.9% from 4% as expected, moving closer to an 18-year low.

It ticked up to 6.6% from 6.5% for African-Americans after hitting a record low in May but fell to 3.4% for whites, its lowest since 2000.

But Mr Moore trashed the report claiming it could be short of 43,000 jobs for a total of 200,000, a number he claimed to be “really solid”.

He said: “Let me just say something about the jobs report.

“I think this is another blockbuster report. It is true that the numbers were a little lower than expected for July but I just want to alert your viewers that there was about a 60,000 revision upward in the previous month.

“So it’s more like 200,000 and that’s a really, really solid number.

“And you know, these numbers would probably be stronger in terms of job growth if there were more workers available.

“I mean, that’s really the biggest problem in terms of restraining growth right now.

“There just aren’t enough workers, which is currently a big problem to have.

“But listen, there is something radically right happening to the US economy today.

“The economy makes you proud to be an American.”

Steve Rick, chief economist at CUNA Mutual Group told CNBC: “I think the report continues the trend.

“There’s always going to be variables in it from month to month.

“But the three month average of 224,000 is strong at this stage in the business cycle.”
