James Corden has said he is “shaking” ahead of hosting America’s prestigious Grammy music awards for the first time on Sunday,

The comedian and actor called it “beyond daunting” but said he feels “incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night”.

“I feel more nervous for this than I’ve ever felt for anything I’ve ever done before, truly,” said the 38-year-old.

Corden got the gig off the back of the success of The Late Late Show and its viral Carpool Karaoke segment.

George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Adele and Michelle Obama are among those who have taken to the road for a singalong with Corden.

Despite his success, Corden said the Grammys is a big step up.

“My show is basically on in the middle of the night where people only really catch it if they wake up and happen to realise they’ve left the television on,” he said.

“This is very different. This is the Grammy awards, and there are quite a few more people watching it.

“We’re really going to try our best to not ruin the whole thing. That’s really our jumping off point: don’t ruin it.”

Corden’s path to US success closely mirrors fellow Briton Ricky Gervais, who also appeared in a popular UK television show before becoming a Stateside star.

Gervais has hosted the Golden Globes four times, famously ‘roasting’ many of the Hollywood A-listers, as well as receiving two Emmy awards and a Golden Globe himself.

Likewise, Corden found fame in Gavin & Stacey, which he starred in and co-wrote, before hosting the Brits and winning a Tony award for his performance in West End play One Man, Two Guvnors.

The London-born star also won praise for his singing alongside the likes of Meryl Streep in Disney musical Into the Woods.

However, he says he will definitely not be singing at the Grammys: “There are a lot of brilliant singers there, and no one needs to hear me disrupt such beautiful vocals.”

The vocal duties will instead be left to the likes of Adele – up for five awards – and mum-to-be Beyonce, who leads the way with nine nominations.

The pair are both due to perform and will battle it out for some of the night’s key awards, including song, artist and album of the year.

David Bowie, who died in January 2016, is also nominated in four categories, including best rock album and best alternative music album for Blackstar.

The LA ceremony will also see tribute segments to George Michael and Prince, who both also died last year.

Other performers on the night include Lady Gaga, who will perform with Metallica, Katy Perry, The Weeknd, John Legend and Bruno Mars.
