Donald Trump MUST prepare for North Korean attack, warns top US navy veteran
Bloody despot Kim Jong-un poses a direct threat to America and something must be done before he “pops up at the worst time”, according to Admiral James Stavridis.
The respected military official said there was no “silver bullet” for dealing with the obese dictator but said the Trump administration needed to come up with a coordinated response before it is too late.
Admiral Stavridis said: “US. responses to North Korea have been erratic over the past several decades, essentially ping-ponging between public negotiations, backroom bargaining with China and operational sabre rattling by military forces.
Admiral Stavridis said these military capabilities meant Mr Trump had to begin preparing for a North Korean attack – however unlikely.
He said: “We need to get our top-notch systems in place to defend against an attack, using either conventional or nuclear weapons.
“At the far end of the spectrum of violence, we should be ready for a conventional strike using long-range bombers.”
He concluded by warning Kim’s real threat was how he could influence his biggest ally China against the US – especially given Mr Trump’s hostility towards the country.
Admiral Stavridis said: “In the end there is no silver bullet. But the sooner we start dealing with Kim, the better. He will otherwise pop up at the worst times, influencing broader, more important relationships, notably ours with China. We have to get ahead of the problem to move a strategic global agenda forward.”
