Jurassic World 2 Fallen Kingdom: GOOD NEWS for sequel after mixed reviews

The film had mixed reviews from critics, but landed in UK cinemas last week to a mostly positive reception from audiences.

Figures show it has debuted at No1 on the UK box office chart with a hefty £14.3 million first week, of which £10.6 million was the Friday-Sunday weekend.

That’s the second-highest weekend gross in this country so far this year, behind only Avengers: Infinity War (£23.1 million).

It’s also impressive given the good weather in the UK over the weekend, proving people weren’t put off going to the cinema.

Fallen Kingdom’s opening is, however, down on the first Jurassic World movie’s gross: that movie made £16.8 million in its first weekend (£19.35 million including previews).

It was enough to comfortably push Solo: A Star Wars Story down to second place. The spin-off made another £1.2 million to bring its three-week total to £16.4 million.

Deadpool took third place, in its fourth weekend on release, netting £1.2 million towards a new total of £29 million.

Book Club made £0.5 million in its second week, enough to lift it up on spot in the chart to No4.

And Avengers: Infinity War completed the Top 5, making another £0.4 million during its seventh weekend on the market – bringing its new UK total to £69.6 million.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is out in the US later this month, and now has good wind in its sails.

It currently has a 60% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ consensus saying: “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom adds another set piece-packed entry to the blockbuster franchise, although genuinely thrilling moments are in increasingly short supply.”

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return to their headline roles, with Jeff Goldblum back for a brief cameo.

The film will be followed by a third movie, directed by Colin Trevorrow.
