Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp makes admission as part of promise to Anfield faithful
The Reds boss, 51, has led this side to three cup finals in his time at Anfield – the League Cup in 2016, the Europa league the same year and last season’s Champions League – but lost them all.
In fact, the 55-year-old has lost all off his last SIX finals since winning the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund in 2012.
Despite winning plaudits for his attacking style, he insists he wants to be remembered for his success – and not as the ‘fun’ Reds boss who won nothing.
And although he admits he does not know when he will break his Reds duck, he has promised the Liverpool faithful he will deliver.
He said: “I have said it a few times: I have no idea when we will win something, but I’m sure this club will win something.
“I don’t know when so let’s have the best times of our lives until then.
“Let’s enjoy the world, let’s enjoy the football, let’s enjoy the journey and it’s what we did so far – it was a good time.
“Nobody wants to look back in 10 or 20 years and say ‘So the best time we had without winning anything was when Klopp was here. It was so funny and all that stuff’.
“That’s not really something you want to achieve, we still have time to do something special and we know that to underline the development and progress, we have to do it.”
Klopp’s side are currently third in the Premier League, behind second-placed Chelsea and leaders Manchester City on goal difference only
The club have never won the Prem – their last top-flight title coming in the old Division One in 1989-90.
But they can consolidate their position at the business end of the table when they go to struggling Huddersfield in their next League outing on October 20, before hosting bottom-of-the-table Cardiff on October 27.
Liverpool have not won a trophy of any kind since lifting the League Cup in 2012.
