Pirates of the Caribbean reboot: FEMALE Jack Sparrow tipped to replace Johnny Depp

Disney could recast Jack Sparrow, but that’s an option that seems less likely since its such an iconic role linked directly to Depp, unlike say, Batman or Bond.

Or perhaps they’ll gender-swap the character (Jackie Sparrow?) like Doctor Who.

While another option sees the reboot having a lead who is a completely different character, but in the same universe.

Whatever the case, Paddy Power’s most likely odds is for a female lead to replace Depp.

As it stands the odds are 5-4 of any woman leading the franchise in the next movie, in any character role.

While a specifically gender-swapped Sparrow is at 6-4, with the most likely actresses being Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence at 20-1.

Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson is at 66-1 and Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot is on 80-1.

However leading the men for the next Jack Sparrow is Ewan McGregor at 12-1, followed by James Norton and Shia LaBeouf on 14-1.

The actors are followed by Ryan Reynolds at 16-1, who worked closely on Deadpool with rumoured new Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Meanwhile, other contenders are Henry Cavill (18-1), Zac Efron (20-1), Matthew McConaughey (20-1), Kit Harrington (20-1), Cillian Murphy (25-1), Tom Hardy (33-1), Woody Harrelson (50-1) and Ryan Gosling (80-1).

The last Pirates of the Caribbean film, Salazar’s Revenge (or Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US), was released last year so presumably, it will be a few years before a reboot arrives.

Meanwhile, Depp continues to star in the Fantastic Beasts franchise as Gellert Grindelwald.
