Now 19, she was incredibly young when her debut was scrutinised – and its producers were lambasted.

She has put out several singles since then, to little success – but her new track Foolish has turned heads of music lovers online.

The self-released pop single, which was unveiled yesterday (April 21) has been likened to recent output by the likes of Selena Gomez, although it remains to be seen if chart success will follow.

Listen to ‘Foolish’ below.

“i don’t want to alarm anyone but rebecca black has released a banger and i am here for it,” one person wrote online.

Another said: “Rebecca Black’s new song is actually a cute bop.”

“rebecca black’s new song is actually fire. holy hell,” commented a third.

An excited fourth person tweeted: “Omg @MsRebeccaBlack, THIS IS A FREAKING BOP GIRL! Slay me!”

Black told Time: “I spent so long only feeling like I was this internet girl, this meme.

“Right now, I just want to get to a spot where people can refer to me as a musician, as a songwriter.”

A full EP is expected to follow this summer.
