WHY IT RATES: Each of the suites at this unique property were designed to be immersive works of art.—Mia Taylor, TravelPulse Senior Writer.

Studio Allston, a boutique hotel located on the banks of the Charles River, debuts five new signature suites as part of the hotel’s ongoing dramatic renovation and restoration.

The signature suites are designed as immersive works of art, with different concepts featured in each of the five rooms. The suites are the latest addition to Studio Allston which spotlights dramatic artwork throughout the property, including in the lobby, bar, meeting rooms, and in every one of the guest rooms. In total, more than 20 artists were commissioned to work on this unique hotel project.

The hotel’s suites were designed by five local contemporary artists and art directed by Boston-based Isenberg Projects. Each artist played a leading role in every step of the design process, from developing the room’s concept and the guest experience.

Fresh off his residency at the Harvard Forest, David Buckley Borden presents the Naturalism Suite, which features his vibrant Land New England piece and celebrates Boston landscapes ranging from the Boston Harbor Islands to the Emerald Necklace. Spirited interior prints, wallpaper supergraphics, and two dozen speculative-design sculptures ranging from “landy joy sticks” to “climate-change marshalling wands” add to the earthy effect.

In the Top of Mind Suite by Sophie Ainslie, hand drawn and painted designs grace the walls, evoking a sense of calm and peace for Studio Allston guests.

Top of Mind showcases Ainsle’s ability to work between drawing and painting, and figuration and abstraction, with elegance. This intricate installation creates a beautiful space for relaxation and contemplation.

In the wildly textured Reel Countdown Suite by Cyrille Conan, the black and white striping pattern mural creates a cinematic-like feel. For guests chasing the ultimate screening experience, this boldly designed suite provides the perfect space to binge-watch the latest series or kick back with a classic film – including the snacks.

Inspired by a utopian vision of space-age modernism Providence-based Jim Drain created a cosmonaut’s wonderland in the Drink in the Cosmos Suite. Step into this euphorically space age suite and lounge your way around the galaxy in 60’s mod style.

Maria Molteni’s playfully designed Unplug & Play Suite features her immersive Wavelength piece. Designed like a Shaker quilt that comes to life with beautiful vibrant colors and patterns, Molteni arranged squares and quarter circles with subtle color variations to form motifs celebrating Baseball, Drunkards Path, Snowball, Bows & Arrows, Around the World, Love Ring, and Fools Puzzle. A foosball table and plenty of board games complement this experience of the ultimate game night.

“Watching the creative process of each artist and the thoughtfulness that went into every suite makes each of these spaces incredibly special,” said Arnaldo Almonte, general manager of Studio Allston Hotel. “The artists commissioned to design the suites – as well as the artists who installed work throughout the building – are really the heart and soul of this hotel.”

Studio Allston Hotel was art directed by Isenberg Projects, a creative advisory firm based in Boston. Actively engaged in Boston’s inventive and artistic economy, Isenberg Projects develops opportunities to bring artists and designers out of the gallery and into the public realm.

The Davis Companies joined with Spot On Ventures, to reimagine the 1960s vintage building, located at 1234 Soldiers Field Road, into today’s art-themed Studio Allston Hotel.

The hotel is managed by Highgate, a premier real estate investment and hospitality management company. The hotel is also home to the recently opened Casa Caña, a Latin kitchen, patio, and rum bar, featuring innovative New Latin cuisine, owned and operated by the Lyons Group.
