The special ceremony was held at the Kennedy Center to honour Cher’s life and career on December 2 but only released and broadcast this week.

During the star-studded evening, Lambert brought the audience to its feet (and to tears) with a slowed-down version of Cher’s 1998 hit Believe.

Cher could be seen becoming emotional during the bridge, but lead the outpouring of tears and cheers when the America Idol star hit some incredibly high notes at the end.

Twitter was flooded with praise for Lambert’s performance and Cher posted the following message in her own inimitable style.

“Tried 2 write Feelings About Adam Lambert Singing Believe In Words, but Cant seem 2. When Your senses are Overwhelmed All Can you feel with your ❤️.”

Lambert was quick to reply: “It was a total honour Cher!!!! You’re a goddess!”

Adam Lambert has enjoyed a hugely successful solo career after finishing runner-up on American Idol Season 8.

He is probably best known now as the ongoing frontman for the band Queen, taking over the role of the much-missed Freddie Mercury and touring the world with Roger Taylor and Brian May.

With the new movie Bohemian Rhapsody racing past $640million at the box office, the demand for Queen has reignited all over again.
