The villainous Snoke was first introduced via hologram in The Force Awakens, before being quickly killed off just halfway through The Last Jedi.

Such a shocking twist really divided fans, but have we really seen the last of the galactic baddie?

Well interestingly Serkis, who plays Snoke, is suddenly not available to appear at Keystone Comic Con, just while Episode IX happens to be filming.

The event made the announcement via Twitter, in a very similar way to how fans worked out Billy Dee Williams was returning as Lando Calrissian.

Keystone Comic Con tweeted: “We’re sad to announce that Andy Serkis unfortunately needs to cancel his appearance at Keystone Comic Con due to a scheduling conflict.

“If you purchased a Photo Op or Autograph with Andy, Epic Photo Ops will be emailing you about a refund.”

Also Serkis’ IMDB page shows he’s not currently committed to filming any projects in the near future, meaning there’s space for him to shoot Snoke scenes in Star Wars 9.

But just how exactly the Supreme Leader could return is something of a mystery.

They added: “Due to a film schedule conflict, Billy Dee Williams will not be able to appear at Sask Expo this year. He sends his regrets, and hopes to make it up to his Saskatchewan fans in 2019.

“We’re sorry you can’t make it Billy, but we understand that these things can happen. We hope to see you next year!”

And just a few weeks later Lucasfilm confirmed Billy was returning as Lando.

While they’ve not mentioned Serkis’ return perhaps Snoke’s appearance is a surprise just like Frank Oz secretly filming scenes as Yoda in The Last Jedi.

Star Wars Episode IX will be released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
