The UK sales tracking week runs from Friday to Thursday – and with Dalton’s song not coming out until Sunday night, he’s playing catch-up with the competition before the final charts are unveiled at the end of the week. But the good news is he’s making huge progress, according to the latest midweek data. After being at No23 on midnight on Sunday, his first full day on release has proven very fruitful.

According to the Official Charts Company, The Power of Love – which features James Arthur – is at No4 today, with sales and streams from today, tomorrow and Thursday still to be counted.

The track is getting most of its traction from sales as things stand: Spotify’s most-streamed charts for the United Kingdom indicate that The Power Of Love was No89 on its service yesterday (Monday) with just under 92,000 streams.

If Harris holds his spot in the Top 5 until the end of the week, he will fall nicely in line with the vast majority of previous X Factor winners.

In fact, only one – Louisa Johnson with Forever Young in 2015 – has not achieved that peak. That particular song only made it as far as No9.

Last year Rak-Su went all the way to No2 with Dimelo, their own original track.

And in 2016, Matt Terry achieved a Top 3 finish at No3 with the Ed Sheeran-penned When Christmas Comes Around.

Harris was mentored to victory by Louis Tomlinson on the ITV talent show, and has been speaking out this week about the One Direction star’s support.

“No it’s not sunk in,” he told Lorraine Kelly. “Still not able to feel anything. It’s just crazy! It’ll sink in.

“I think Louis Tomlinson is the one who over the course of my journey has said be yourself.

“Normally I’m naturally laid back. I questioned, ‘why am I even here? I’m quiet. Am I not TV enough?’ He was like ‘no you’re you!’”

Ariana Grande is expected to be this week’s number one with thank u, next.

The Power of Love by Dalton Harris featuring James Arthur is out now.
