With Glass, M Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals, Unbreakable and Split, in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller. The synopsis for Glass reads: “Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters. Meanwhile, the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.”

When is Glass out in the UK?

The Glass movie is out in UK cinemas on Friday, January 18, 2019.

In the aftermath of Unbreakable’s debut in 2000 fansites began filling up with rumours about potential sequels.

Even the cast members were quoted as hoping for more Unbreakable movies.

However, writer-director M Night Shyamalan staunchly denied the rumours of sequels.

Over the next decade, there were recurring statements by cast and Shyamalan himself that there was a sequel in the works.

However, most of those plans were quashed with the disappointing box office performance of Unbreakable.

In 2016, Split was released starring James McAvoy as Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man suffering from a dissociative identity disorder (DID).

In Crumb’s case, DID affects his body chemistry, adopting the mannerisms of each of the separate personas.

One of these personalities is The Beast, which causes Crumb’s body to transform into a feral superhuman state, with the desire to consume those that have not had a traumatic situation in their lives – those it does not consider “broken”.

What fans were unaware of back in 2000 was Crumb had initially been included in Unbreakable but was written out.

Those scenes were developed by Shyamalan for a standalone movie, making it a sequel in theme if not strictly in chronology.

Split’s final scene featured a cameo from David Dunn, played by Willis, who learns about the escape of The Beast.

In a January 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shyamalan said: “I hope there is a third film in the series.”

He added: “The answer is yes. I’m just such a wimp sometimes.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen when I go off in my room, a week after this film opens, to write the script.

“But I’m going to start writing. [I have] a really robust outline, which is pretty intricate.

“But now the standards for my outlines are higher. I need to know I’ve won already. I’m almost there but I’m not quite there.”

By April 2017, Shyamalan announced he had finished the script and the film would be called Glass.

Glass is out in UK cinemas on January 18, 2019.
