Gabriel Luna, who previously starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, has been tapped for the job, according to Deadline.

He will play a new Terminator in the first James Cameron-approved reboot since the original.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will still appear, alongside fellow returning star Linda Hamilton.

Also cast are Natalia Reyes and Diego Boneta; the latter of whom will be familiar to anyone who saw the TV series Scream Queens.

The new, currently untitled Terminator film will be a direct sequel to the first two films – The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day – and will completely disregard all follow-ups.

This means it’ll be as though 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, 2009’s Terminator Salvation and 2015’s Terminator Genisys never happened.

It’s just as well: the 2015 effort may have made a solid $440.6 million at the box office, but the critics weren’t on side: it managed only a 26% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

That in itself was a “soft reboot”, although this upcoming effort is the first to have the stamp of approval from Cameron, who helmed the first two films in 1984 and 1991.

The blockbuster is being primed for a November 2019 release, a delay from its original date of July 26.

The reason for the push-back was reportedly to avoid competition with upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw.

The Terminator reboot is due on November 22, 2019.
